Exponent Basics

Review how to write an exponential expression in expanded form and write something given in expanded form in exponential form.  Also learn how to evaluate simple exponential expressions.

5^3 written in expanded form is 5 x 5 x 5.

If you were asked to write 7 x 7 x 7 x 7 in exponential form, you would write it as 7^4.

When asked to evaluate an exponential expression, write the expression in expanded form first and then solve by multiplying two numbers at a time.

Example: Evaluate 6^3.

6^3 = 6 x 6 x 6

6^3 = 36 x 6

6^3 = 216
