💡 Main Idea
This lesson focuses on adding and subtracting decimals by lining up decimal points. Numbers must be written so that tenths are under tenths, hundredths are under hundredths, and so on. Sometimes a whole number needs to be rewritten with a decimal, such as \(12 = 12.00\), or a decimal needs an extra zero, such as \(6.2 = 6.20\). Once the place values are aligned, add or subtract just like with whole numbers.
