Compound Probability Lab Companion Sheet

This compound probability lab gives students hands-on practice with independent events using a four-section spinner and a coin. Students will use the Coin-and-Spinner Probability Tool to complete 64 simulated trials, identify the sample space, create a tree diagram, and determine the theoretical probability of each outcome.

Students organize their results in a table and compare experimental probabilities with the theoretical probability of 0.125 for each outcome. By working with lists, tree diagrams, tables, fractions, decimals, and written explanations, students strengthen their understanding of equally likely outcomes and how experimental results may vary because of chance.

This companion sheet works well for instruction, guided practice, review, or intervention. It connects studentsโ€™ earlier work with simple probability to seventh-grade compound events and prepares them to analyze increasingly complex probability models.
