Dice Probability Lab Companion Sheet

This dice probability lab helps students investigate compound events using two distinguishable six-sided dice. Designed as a companion sheet for the Dice Probability Lab, the activity has students use the tool’s sample-space matrix to explore ordered pairs, pairs in any order, sums, doubles, and events involving at least one specified result.

Students determine favorable outcomes and theoretical probabilities, compare events with the same probability, and explain why order can affect an outcome. They then conduct a 36-trial simulation, record cumulative experimental results, calculate differences from the theoretical probability, and analyze how experimental probability changes as the number of trials increases.

This exploratory lab works well for instruction, guided practice, review, intervention, or partner work. It connects students’ earlier understanding of simple probability to seventh-grade compound events while developing reasoning with sample spaces, fractions, decimals, simulations, and written mathematical explanations.
